The Sunday Swatch

I have been loving coral/orange colours lately but coral polishes really don't look too great on my nails against my skin tone. Whilst looking for a nail polish to wear this weekend I came across one I purchased  a while ago by OPI called red my fortune cookie. It's a gorgeous bright red with a slight hint of orange.

I took this picture with and without flash and the pictures looked exactly the same, I really don't know why the picture is showing up slightly pink because the polish is more of an orange red. (I will add a picture tomorrow in better lighting)
Colour

A bright red, leaning towards an orangey red, there is definitely an orange hint to it.

Application

This polish was really easy to apply, it was'nt streaky on the first coat and the colour payoff is excellent, I only needed to use two coats of this polish.

Finish

The colour has a cream  finish

Conclusion

I love this colour, it's really pigmented and easy to apply and is a gorgeous colour. It would look great on toes and I cant wait to use this polish in the summer when I have a sun tan.

A Cheeky Gander #1

So I thought I would add a new segment to my blog called *drum roll please.... 'A Cheeky Gander'. I am always swatching things whilst out and about so I thought this would be a good way to keep you posted on things I have been testing in store.

Today I was in Boots looking for hair dye and I came across a product I hadn't seen before on the Revlon stand. It is called Revlon Baby Stick and it is a two in one product that is a tint for your cheeks and lips.

I picked up the darkest colour which is a red called sunset and swatched it on the back of my hand. I am not kidding when I say there was 0% colour payoff. The pigmentation of this product is absolutely terrible, I had to rub really hard to see any kind of colour and even then it was so sheer it was barely noticeable. Unfortunately when trying the other two colours the same thing happened. I also don't see how this could be a lip tint, I don't know of anyone with lips that size, do you? Overall this is a very disappointing product by Revlon who are actually my favourite drug store brand and normally get their products spot on.

Luckily I picked up an excellent product by Revlon that restored my faith in the brand. I swatched three of the new Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede lipsticks and was very impressed.

It glided on really well and the colour payoff was excellent. There is a huge selection of colours and Muse was my favourite which is a beautiful vibrant pink.  This is definitely a product I would like to purchase.

Are there any products you've tested in store recently that you were impressed or seriously unimpressed by?

How to get rid of grey hairs

As painful as it is to admit this, I am the not so proud owner of a few grey hairs on my head that seem to greet me each morning as if to say, we aint going anywhere!

I am only 20 so it's quite embarrassing but my grandmothers hair turned grey when she was very young and so did my mother's so I guess that's why I've got a few grey hairs already. I have been on a mission to hide them as quickly as possible and I have finally found the perfect product!

From past experience putting a colour over them helps for a few weeks until you have to go back to the hairdresser and get them covered again. This can become a costly process and isn't so great for your hair either.

Thankfully I came across a product called Roux Tween-Time and so I started to search the Internet for reviews. I found a few which all seemed positive but it was really hard to find any in depth reviews so I decided to test the product for myself and all of you.

As you can see it looks like a giant crayon, all you have to do is wet it with some water to moisten the stick and then cover your grey hairs, simple as that!
how the product looks when applied, colour:medium brown
I recommend doing this in a well lit room with a big mirror because it is possible to get the colour on your scalp which isn't such a great look! Alternatively you could purchase some disposable mascara wands/cotton buds and by wetting both the wand and stick and mixing them together you could get a more precise application. However I find applying it straight from the crayon is fine as long as I am careful.

The thing I love most about this product is it doesn't leave your hair feeling sticky or weighed down, instead it  dries and covers up all my greys really well. The product claims to cover greys until you wash your hair and for me personally it definitely does. The packaging makes it a perfect product to throw into your handbag when your on the go and notice a dreaded grey peaking out.

Overall I couldn't have asked for a better product. Although it is a rather embarrassing topic to talk about at my age I just had to share it with any of you who are having the same problem. It will definitely save you going back to the salon for a few more weeks!

It is available in a variety of colours and is priced at around £7.00. The only place I have seen it available to buy in the UK is Amazon:

L'OREAL MICELLAR WATER

Micellar waters seem to be becoming a more and more popular choice of cleanser. Micellar water contains microscopic oil molecules that are excellent in removing make-up, dirt and oil. They are very popular with make-up artists because they dont tend to irritate even the most sensitive of skin types.

As mentioned on my blog previously my favourite Micellar Water is by Bioderma, which until recently was only easily available to buy in France. In the past month L'OREAL launched their own micellar water which I managed to pick up on sale at superdrug for £2.50, what a steal!

I have been using this cleanser for two weeks and am  definitely impressed.

It removes my eye makeup really well, I soak two cotton pads and hold them over my eyes for about half a minute to let it absorb and break down my eye make-up, after that I am able to wipe away my mascara and eye liner quickly and easily. I find this cleanser removes my eye make-up much easier than Bioderma so that is a definite plus.

I then use two more cotton pads to wipe away my face make-up and I have found this product removes it really thoroughly.

Although this is a 3 in 1 product which claims to:

I prefer to use this as a pre-cleanse before my normal cleanser and wouldn't just use this as my cleanser alone (due to the fact I have OCD when it comes to cleansing my face)

This would also be an excellent product for those of you who are guilty of using make-up wipes, as this product allows you to remove make-up just as quick whilst at the same time getting a more thorough cleanse.

After two weeks I have used just over half  the bottle so it does run out pretty quickly but because of the low price point I think its justifiable.

You can purchase this product for £4.99 for 200ml which after using this product I can say is very cheap for how great it is.

Bioderma is still my favourite micellar water but this product comes in at a very close second place!

Where Have I been?

So it's been a pretty long time since I last blogged, but I promise I have a good reason why! Unfortunately I had the most terrible flu and was sweating out a temperature for a week, pretty gross I know. As if that wasn't enough I then got some kind of infection which I am now taking antibiotics for. All in all, things haven't been all singing and dancing in the health department of my life but onwards and upwards as they say.

I am feeling much better now and I can honestly say that I have missed  my blog so much. I was getting rather bored of my last header and decided my blog needed a bit of a spring clean so I hope you like it!

I am so excited to be back on here writing posts and want to thank any of you that have kept following me even though I haven't been posting!

March Favourites

It feels like so long since I wrote my last blog post, I was celebrating Passover for a week and then I switched into complete holiday mode and hadn't really been in the mood to blog. However I am back now with my March favourites!

Hair Products

Alterna Bamboo UV Vibrant Colour Shampoo

Two weeks ago I had my hair coloured a light chestnut brown (will be doing a blog post on it) and so I needed to buy a shampoo that wouldn't wash out the colour. My hairdresser recommended this one, I have now used it four times and I am thoroughly impressed. Whats different about this shampoo is that it doesn't contain any sulfates or sodium chloride which usually strips dye out of hair. It also contains rinse resistant UV filters that protect against oxidative colour damage. It claims to retain colour and brightness for 60 washes so I hope this is true!
* One thing I will say is that I have found this shampoo to be very drying when used without conditioner so I would highly recommend using a conditioner with it!

Since having my hair cut I am really trying to take better care of it, since I use some form of heat on it every day a heat protection spray is an essential. One I really like is Tressemme's heat defence spray, it's very reasonably priced for such a large bottle (300ml) and it smells quite nice to, the scent reminds me of a hair salon. The spray protects up to 230 degrees, which is one of the highest I have found on the high street. The main thing I like about this product is that it sprays a very fine mist which doesn't make your hair feel at all wet or weighed down.

Make-Up

As my hair is now much lighter I have found that colours that I used to wear on my lips which were mostly pale pinks don't suit me. I am really liking pinky brown colours and my favourite this month has been Mauve It Over by Revlon. I absolutely love this colour, its a gorgeous plummy brown colour with a hint of pink. Even though it is a matte consistency I still find it to be quite moisturising and I find it stays on for a long time as well. Revlon are my favourite brand for high street lipsticks and I cant rave about them enough.

I am always using my Naked Palette, I actually don't know what I would do without it, it's like my third limb. Two colours I was using a lot last Month were Naked and Buck, they are such great neutral browns that are so easy to wear. I used naked all over my lid and used Buck in the crease, I think it looked really nice for a subtle day make-up look with some liquid liner!

Skin Care

Johnsons day cream
I am now on my second tub of this cream and I will probably repurchase it again and again. I use this as a day cream and a make-up primer. It sinks into my skin really quickly so I don't need to wait around for it to dry before applying my make-up which is a bonus. It doesn't have a scent but there is something about it that smells really comforting. I know that sounds really strange but if you smelt it you would know what I meant. It's a really cheap, moisturiser that just does exactly what it says on the front and you really cant go wrong with it.
